So it’s been 18 months since I last wrote anything here. I’ll skip the “I’ll try and do better” speech and get to the point of the post.
Dallin turned two today and it has been so amazing watching him grow. In some places he’s been growing too much. As in hardly any of the baby proofing stuff actually works on him. Those little plastic doorknob things? Yeah, those haven’t worked for a few months now (not even two for crying out loud!!!). Two big pieces of drywall, an old 17″ monitor and a one of those big plastic things they stand in and are surrounded in toys… all in front of my entertainment center. Like they aren’t even there.
But other things are cool. I take him to the park and he climbs up all the “big boy” ladders to go on the tallest windy slides all by himself. In his music class he is one of the only ones that actually keeps the beat. Last week he all of a sudden decided to start counting to 8. He had done 1 2 3 for several months now, but I guess he has been studying on his own to get better.
I never would have thought that I would be excited about someone counting to 8. That watching someone go down a slide by themselves would cause me to smile. That the first time I got a voluntary hug, I would tear up. That every time I hear “dadsy” I feel like the coolest guy in the world.
Sadly I don’t have a year 2 video ready this year. I have a folder of stuff to make into one, but time has been spent playing with him lately where last year he wasn’t as interactive. Hopefully I will get it up soon (pictures hopefully sooner).
Update: He just learned to identify himself today. If I ask who he is, he says “dallin”. How cool is that kid =)

Almost was doing a post a month… missed it by a day, oh well.
Dallin got dressed up as a monkey, and suprisingly didn’t have too much problem with it. The ears/hat would slip down over his eyes every now and then which he didn’t like but not bad over all.
Lots of new pics to be seen. Have added about 20 new ones in the Dallin section, there are a few Halloween pictures, and over at Flickr are the promised fall pictures.
Kaylene had a birthday last month. Dallin was nice and actually slept through the whole night for 3 nights as a gift, but has slipped back into his old habbits of waking up… but at least it’s usually only once a night.
Yesterday he also rolled over by himself for the first time. Kaylene got it on video for me to see (well the 3rd time anyway) and it looks more like a semi-controlled head toss to one side that happens to take the rest of his body with him… but sure, we’ll call it a roll-over
As a first for me I got to take the announcement pictures for Thomas (Kaylene’s brother) and Michelle (his fiance… duh). Took them up the canyon and made them endure 300+ pictures. It was my first time taking pictures of people other then candid shots and so was a nice challenge to see how I’d do. Then I did some playing in Photoshop (inspired by other announcements I saw on the web) and gave em a few options. They are still speaking to me so I must have done at least a semi-decent job. Will post the winning announcement up here after they send them out (don’t want to steal their thunder).
Other then that, nothing too exciting going on. Work goes on, Kaylene is enjoying being home with Dallin (most times) and winter is upon us.
Will try and post sooner then next month… yeah… right.

Spent Labor Day at the Bahr household. Some of the pics we took are in the gallery. It was nice to have a day off and hang out with some family. It was also niceto then have a shorter week at work. 4 day weeks are always welcome.
Dallin had his 8 week checkup last week as well. He’s up to 11 lbs 14oz and is 22.5 inches long. His weight is in the 50th percentile, length in 25th and head in 25th. Weight and length are up from his 2 week checkup which were 25 and 5 respectively. But he already has size 12 feet, which is in the 460th percentile, so it all evens out ok
He also got a few shots, which he was a tad unhappy about… as was Kaylene.
That’s about it. Fall colors are starting to come in to the mountains, so hope to have some nice fall pictures shortly. We also hope to get up to the Utah State Fair this week and get some long exposure shots as well.

Yeah… I’m guessing most my posts in the comming weeks are going to be about Dallin. Better then no posts at all I guess.
Dallin’s jaundice number dropped to 14.5 and we got clearence to take him off the blanket. Until the medical supply place comes and get it, we are keeping him on it at night… just for that extra boost.
A few more pics…

As usual, if anyone wants bigger sizes, let me know.
Yeah, the closeup is a bit blurry… but it’s cute, so deal with it.
Here’s another video of him just looking around and stuff. It’s also got a small glimpse of the billi-blanket.

Yeah yeah… we don’t have a name for him yet His name is Dallin Aaron Barker, but we do have him.
Born 7/13/2005 at 6:05 (3 weeks early, was due Aug 2nd)
7 lbs 10oz (thank goodness it was 3 weeks early)
18.5 Inches long
I’m just home real quick grabbing some stuff, so this will be short. Mom and baby are both doing fine. Everything went great, Kaylene had an epidural (sp?) and didn’t have much discomfort at all. Got officially checked in at noon, and had baby 6 hours later.
This is the earliest picture I have… only a few minutes old here. My mom has earier as I was doing video for the first 7 mins.
This one is after he’s all cleaned up and had a bath… he was sucking on everything so I gave him my finger. I’m guessing that’s not the last time that will happen.
And here’s the happy family (well Kaylene won’t be so happy when she finds a picture of her looking like that online, but you get the idea.)
Will do more updates when I have more time… am guessing I should get back to the hospital with all the stuff I am supposed to be here getting.
Update 7/14 11:00 am
Home again to make sure the dogs haven’t destroyed the house. Here’s a little more info:
Baby (really need a name) had a little bruising on his forehead, and also wasn’t staying pink all that well, so they whisked him down to the nursury pretty quick. After a little watching and getting him on an oxygen monitor he was doing just fine.
He hasn’t eaten yet, but so far they say that isn’t totally abnormal. So hopefully we’ll get somewhere with that in the next 6 hours or so.
Mom and baby continue to do fine. Dad hates the funky chair that converts into a bed thing… and is a little sleep deprived as a result. But I guess I can’t be the only one getting sleep.
So far the UVRMC staff had just been awesome. All the nurses have been very friendly and extremely accomodating… it’s been really nice to be taken care of so well.
Not sure when I’ll be back to post again, one bummer of UVRMC is that they don’t have internet connections available (get with the times guys
), and I can’t even pick up any local wireless access from the 4th floor *sigh*. But if all goes according to plan, we will get released tomorrow at 11am (I think). Oh well.
Thanks for everyones kind and supporting words, it’s great to have so many wonderful friends.
Update 7/15 4:15pm
Well we are home, and trying to get things situated… since he’s early (and we are slackers) we are not quite prepared. No crib yet.. so will have to get that done.
But in other news… we have a name. And he shall be called “Dallin Aaron Barker”.
Gotta go help with Dallin (ahh… something to call him… whew). Will be back with more details later tonight.
Update 7/17 3:30 pm
We had to go get Dallin’s bilirubin (the stuff that makes you yellow/jaundice) level checked, and it seems it is a bit high… just shy of having him admitted actually. So they are sending over a home health nurse with a “bili blanket” that uses fiber optics to give him some light. Then we will go get a check of his number first thing in the morning to see how effective it was.
I guess expecting a perfect introduction to the world was a bit much to ask for. We know Jaundice and stuff is fairly common, but we are still worried parents. Will post any updates as we get them. And hopefully a few more pics and video later today, that will be in a new post. So make sure to check the front door of the site for new postings that would be missed if you came directly to this page.
