Introducing… “Baby” Barker
July 13th, 2005

Yeah yeah… we don’t have a name for him yet His name is Dallin Aaron Barker, but we do have him.
Born 7/13/2005 at 6:05 (3 weeks early, was due Aug 2nd)
7 lbs 10oz (thank goodness it was 3 weeks early)
18.5 Inches long
I’m just home real quick grabbing some stuff, so this will be short. Mom and baby are both doing fine. Everything went great, Kaylene had an epidural (sp?) and didn’t have much discomfort at all. Got officially checked in at noon, and had baby 6 hours later.
This is the earliest picture I have… only a few minutes old here. My mom has earier as I was doing video for the first 7 mins.
This one is after he’s all cleaned up and had a bath… he was sucking on everything so I gave him my finger. I’m guessing that’s not the last time that will happen.
And here’s the happy family (well Kaylene won’t be so happy when she finds a picture of her looking like that online, but you get the idea.)
Will do more updates when I have more time… am guessing I should get back to the hospital with all the stuff I am supposed to be here getting.
Update 7/14 11:00 am
Home again to make sure the dogs haven’t destroyed the house. Here’s a little more info:
Baby (really need a name) had a little bruising on his forehead, and also wasn’t staying pink all that well, so they whisked him down to the nursury pretty quick. After a little watching and getting him on an oxygen monitor he was doing just fine.
He hasn’t eaten yet, but so far they say that isn’t totally abnormal. So hopefully we’ll get somewhere with that in the next 6 hours or so.
Mom and baby continue to do fine. Dad hates the funky chair that converts into a bed thing… and is a little sleep deprived as a result. But I guess I can’t be the only one getting sleep.
So far the UVRMC staff had just been awesome. All the nurses have been very friendly and extremely accomodating… it’s been really nice to be taken care of so well.
Not sure when I’ll be back to post again, one bummer of UVRMC is that they don’t have internet connections available (get with the times guys
), and I can’t even pick up any local wireless access from the 4th floor *sigh*. But if all goes according to plan, we will get released tomorrow at 11am (I think). Oh well.
Thanks for everyones kind and supporting words, it’s great to have so many wonderful friends.
Update 7/15 4:15pm
Well we are home, and trying to get things situated… since he’s early (and we are slackers) we are not quite prepared. No crib yet.. so will have to get that done.
But in other news… we have a name. And he shall be called “Dallin Aaron Barker”.
Gotta go help with Dallin (ahh… something to call him… whew). Will be back with more details later tonight.
Update 7/17 3:30 pm
We had to go get Dallin’s bilirubin (the stuff that makes you yellow/jaundice) level checked, and it seems it is a bit high… just shy of having him admitted actually. So they are sending over a home health nurse with a “bili blanket” that uses fiber optics to give him some light. Then we will go get a check of his number first thing in the morning to see how effective it was.
I guess expecting a perfect introduction to the world was a bit much to ask for. We know Jaundice and stuff is fairly common, but we are still worried parents. Will post any updates as we get them. And hopefully a few more pics and video later today, that will be in a new post. So make sure to check the front door of the site for new postings that would be missed if you came directly to this page.

I can’t believe it!! Congratulations! He is beautiful. I know I shouldn’t say that about a boy, but he is… in a very masculine way of course. (I do think he looks like his mommy though.) Enjoy every minute of him. You so deserve this!! (Wish we were there this week instead of last.) Dang! Thank you so much for sharing!

Aaron — congratulations! Awesome! Beautiful baby! My husband tells me, “This time, don’t remark about the fact that the baby has hair! All babies except ours have hair!” But I can’t help it. I love his beautiful hair!!

Steve, funny you mention the fun and also Aaron mentioning the sleep deprivation. I don’t think Aaron knows what he is up against here *snickers* I think his sleep deprivation right now is just a tip of an iceberg
Hope to see more pics of the cutie, Aaron. Kiss your little guy from all of us here.

Congratulations, you two! Just remember, whatever you name him, be sure to include a service mark on the first and most prominent reference per web page (an inside joke that Aaron will definitely get).

Ha, ha, Mark. Let’s see if I can get this to show up right. The Sprint method of nomenclature for Aaron’s little bundle of joy:

Wow… that is so awesome… You guys really do deserve him, and he you. I don’t really know what to say… I mean, I have no experience with this sort of thing, but… congratulations! Man, that is so great! And that’s not the last time you’re going to be sleep deprived, as I understand it. By the way, I think you should go with Amos. Or Terrance. Or Josh…
24. Steven & Alison | July 14th, 2005 at 9:44 pm
Congratulations, he looks great, and like a boy (though needs to be washed off in that one picture). He doesn’t just have hair, he’s got crazy, spiky aaron-hair.
(Actually, we’re secretly jealous. But don’t tell anyone.)
25. Raelynn and James | July 15th, 2005 at 5:49 pm
I love it! He doesn’t look like a Kyle or Adam, but he sure looks like a Dallin. I wish we were there to visit. Hopefully December will find us back in Utah again. And all the baby cousins can get together and play:)
