More Dallin pics and video

Yeah… I’m guessing most my posts in the comming weeks are going to be about Dallin. Better then no posts at all I guess.

Dallin’s jaundice number dropped to 14.5 and we got clearence to take him off the blanket. Until the medical supply place comes and get it, we are keeping him on it at night… just for that extra boost.

A few more pics…

As usual, if anyone wants bigger sizes, let me know.

Yeah, the closeup is a bit blurry… but it’s cute, so deal with it.

Here’s another video of him just looking around and stuff. It’s also got a small glimpse of the billi-blanket.

A few Dallin videos, and a jaundice update.

Here are 3 quick videos of Dallin. They aren’t the super best quality, but I was trying to keep the filesize down. Will put up the original files if anyone really wants them. Just say so in the comments.

First we have him in the nursury (11.5 MB 46 sec) less then an hour old.
Next is him looking around the room at 18 hours old (8.2 MB 33 sec).
Last, but not least, is my brother Brett, holding a baby for the first time in his life (11.5 MB 46 sec) … aren’t they both cute ;)

An update on Dallin’s jaundice problem…
We have gotten the billi blanket and it’s pretty cool. Haven’t taken any pics of it yet, but I am sure I will. It’s basically a projector, that takes all the light and channels it into fiber optics that then go into this 5×7 or so pad that you have to put on his body, covering as much surface area as possible. We switch it from front to back every 6 hours or so.

He has to wear it as much as possible througout the day for it to be effective. The guy that showed us how to use it said that 18 hrs of use will reduce his number by a point a day (he is a 20, and should be down below 9) and 22 hrs a day will reduce him by 3. Weird how it works so much better in those last few hours.

He said that it was kind of discovered by accident. Back however many years ago there was a nursury full of jaundice babies… and one room seemed to do much better then the others. Turned out it was the flourecent lights in that room, and so now that is what they use now as one of the best treatments.

Anyway… we have the checkup tomorrow morning and will post an update as to how he is doing, and hopefully a few more of those pictures I keep promising.

Introducing… “Baby” Barker

Yeah yeah… we don’t have a name for him yet His name is Dallin Aaron Barker, but we do have him.

Born 7/13/2005 at 6:05 (3 weeks early, was due Aug 2nd)
7 lbs 10oz (thank goodness it was 3 weeks early)
18.5 Inches long

I’m just home real quick grabbing some stuff, so this will be short. Mom and baby are both doing fine. Everything went great, Kaylene had an epidural (sp?) and didn’t have much discomfort at all. Got officially checked in at noon, and had baby 6 hours later.

This is the earliest picture I have… only a few minutes old here. My mom has earier as I was doing video for the first 7 mins.

This one is after he’s all cleaned up and had a bath… he was sucking on everything so I gave him my finger. I’m guessing that’s not the last time that will happen.

And here’s the happy family (well Kaylene won’t be so happy when she finds a picture of her looking like that online, but you get the idea.)

Will do more updates when I have more time… am guessing I should get back to the hospital with all the stuff I am supposed to be here getting.

Update 7/14 11:00 am
Home again to make sure the dogs haven’t destroyed the house. Here’s a little more info:

Baby (really need a name) had a little bruising on his forehead, and also wasn’t staying pink all that well, so they whisked him down to the nursury pretty quick. After a little watching and getting him on an oxygen monitor he was doing just fine.

He hasn’t eaten yet, but so far they say that isn’t totally abnormal. So hopefully we’ll get somewhere with that in the next 6 hours or so.

Mom and baby continue to do fine. Dad hates the funky chair that converts into a bed thing… and is a little sleep deprived as a result. But I guess I can’t be the only one getting sleep.

So far the UVRMC staff had just been awesome. All the nurses have been very friendly and extremely accomodating… it’s been really nice to be taken care of so well.

Not sure when I’ll be back to post again, one bummer of UVRMC is that they don’t have internet connections available (get with the times guys ;) ), and I can’t even pick up any local wireless access from the 4th floor *sigh*. But if all goes according to plan, we will get released tomorrow at 11am (I think). Oh well.

Thanks for everyones kind and supporting words, it’s great to have so many wonderful friends.

Update 7/15 4:15pm
Well we are home, and trying to get things situated… since he’s early (and we are slackers) we are not quite prepared. No crib yet.. so will have to get that done.

But in other news… we have a name. And he shall be called “Dallin Aaron Barker”.

Gotta go help with Dallin (ahh… something to call him… whew). Will be back with more details later tonight.

Update 7/17 3:30 pm
We had to go get Dallin’s bilirubin (the stuff that makes you yellow/jaundice) level checked, and it seems it is a bit high… just shy of having him admitted actually. So they are sending over a home health nurse with a “bili blanket” that uses fiber optics to give him some light. Then we will go get a check of his number first thing in the morning to see how effective it was.

I guess expecting a perfect introduction to the world was a bit much to ask for. We know Jaundice and stuff is fairly common, but we are still worried parents. Will post any updates as we get them. And hopefully a few more pics and video later today, that will be in a new post. So make sure to check the front door of the site for new postings that would be missed if you came directly to this page.
