Dallin is 2

Dallin FlyingSo it’s been 18 months since I last wrote anything here. I’ll skip the “I’ll try and do better” speech and get to the point of the post.

Dallin turned two today and it has been so amazing watching him grow. In some places he’s been growing too much. As in hardly any of the baby proofing stuff actually works on him. Those little plastic doorknob things? Yeah, those haven’t worked for a few months now (not even two for crying out loud!!!). Two big pieces of drywall, an old 17″ monitor and a one of those big plastic things they stand in and are surrounded in toys… all in front of my entertainment center. Like they aren’t even there.

But other things are cool. I take him to the park and he climbs up all the “big boy” ladders to go on the tallest windy slides all by himself. In his music class he is one of the only ones that actually keeps the beat. Last week he all of a sudden decided to start counting to 8. He had done 1 2 3 for several months now, but I guess he has been studying on his own to get better.
I never would have thought that I would be excited about someone counting to 8. That watching someone go down a slide by themselves would cause me to smile. That the first time I got a voluntary hug, I would tear up. That every time I hear “dadsy” I feel like the coolest guy in the world.
Sadly I don’t have a year 2 video ready this year. I have a folder of stuff to make into one, but time has been spent playing with him lately where last year he wasn’t as interactive. Hopefully I will get it up soon (pictures hopefully sooner).

Update: He just learned to identify himself today. If I ask who he is, he says “dallin”. How cool is that kid =)

Dallin at 6 months… and other stuff

Dallin at 6 monthsAmazing as it is… Dallin is over 6 months old now, almost 7 months by the time I finally write this. Time sure flies… and the kid is getting big.

He just had his 6 month checkup and here’s the vital stats:

Weight: 18lbs 7 oz (75th percentile)
Length:27″ (75th percentile)
Head:45cm (85th percentile)

I just posted up some pictures of him on his 6 month birthday. Happy and smiling as ever (not!). He really does laugh and smile… just every time we pull out the camera he seems more interested in what we are pointing at him and forgets whatever he was having fun with.

He’s now rolling all over the place, but not crawling quite yet. He’s very inquisitive, and loves to look around at anything and everything.

Other stuff

Oh what else is there to post after 3 month gap in news…

I just put up a few Christmas pictures. We had a good time visiting family, and dressing Dallin up in a Santa suit.

A few days later was Thomas and Michelle’s wedding. I had a lot of fun following around the photographer taking my own shots. I picked out about 30 or so (out of 250) and edited them between the luncheon and the reception, then had them going on a slideshow durring the reception. It was nice to get a lot of compliments on them, and to also see the pictures all over (as centerpieces and stuff) that I took for their engagement. I’m really enjoying photography again with the great camera I have. But even though I’ve had it less then a year, I am itching for an upgrade as I’ve got the taste for it and want a bit more control. I think my current camera would stay in the arsenal as it has a lot of abilities in a small package, but I’d love to take that next step.

Another few days later we had the annual Bahr Family New Years Party, where everyone from Lyman’s (Kaylene’s dad) fathers side of the family gets together.

A few weeks later was my birthday… 31 years, or 372 months since that’s how we count for Dallin. Nothing all that special… but such are birthdays when you get older.

This weekend we had kind of a house-warming party (or just a get-together I guess) at Thomas and Michelle’s house. I got to see the pics from the “real” photographer that were taken at the wedding. I was pleased to find that I had quite a few decent shots in comparison, and that others thought so as well. It was definately interesting to see the same shots I was taking, but from different angles and with different thoughts behind them. I’ll have to get them side-by-side sometime to compare and see what I can learn from anothers point of view.

Not a heck of a lot else significant that I can think of. So until the next 3 months go by….

Halloween 2005

Almost was doing a post a month… missed it by a day, oh well.

DallinDallin got dressed up as a monkey, and suprisingly didn’t have too much problem with it. The ears/hat would slip down over his eyes every now and then which he didn’t like but not bad over all.

Lots of new pics to be seen. Have added about 20 new ones in the Dallin section, there are a few Halloween pictures, and over at Flickr are the promised fall pictures.

Kaylene had a birthday last month. Dallin was nice and actually slept through the whole night for 3 nights as a gift, but has slipped back into his old habbits of waking up… but at least it’s usually only once a night.

Yesterday he also rolled over by himself for the first time. Kaylene got it on video for me to see (well the 3rd time anyway) and it looks more like a semi-controlled head toss to one side that happens to take the rest of his body with him… but sure, we’ll call it a roll-over ;)

As a first for me I got to take the announcement pictures for Thomas (Kaylene’s brother) and Michelle (his fiance… duh). Took them up the canyon and made them endure 300+ pictures. It was my first time taking pictures of people other then candid shots and so was a nice challenge to see how I’d do. Then I did some playing in Photoshop (inspired by other announcements I saw on the web) and gave em a few options. They are still speaking to me so I must have done at least a semi-decent job. Will post the winning announcement up here after they send them out (don’t want to steal their thunder).

Other then that, nothing too exciting going on. Work goes on, Kaylene is enjoying being home with Dallin (most times) and winter is upon us.

Will try and post sooner then next month… yeah… right.

Babies a plenty

There were two additions to the Bahr clan this week. First Luke (Kaylene’s Brother) and Crystal Bahr had their 2nd child and first daughter, Kaylinda. Then a few days later Jason and Shersti (Kaylene’s Sister) Anderson had their first child and son, Thayne.

So today we had the blessing for Kaylinda, as well as the blessing of my step-sister’s (Stacey) daughter Angelina.

Whew… lots of babies all over the place. It was fun to see so many future playmates for Dallin, and to get his picture with a few of them.

In other news, we did go up to the fair, but the pictues there didn’t come out so well as their were too many other light sources in the area to get good ride shots. But I did get some good nightime shots of the Salt Lake City Temple. I still haven’t gone through them all and picked out my favorites though. I’ll get some posted up eventually.

I also spent the week trying to get up the canyon to take some fall color pictures, but things kept coming up like work, and babies being born (the nerve of some people) so I finally got up there yesterday and took over 400 pics. That’s definately going to take a while to pick out some favorites.

Labor Day and Dallin 8 week checkup

DallinSpent Labor Day at the Bahr household. Some of the pics we took are in the gallery. It was nice to have a day off and hang out with some family. It was also niceto then have a shorter week at work. 4 day weeks are always welcome.

Dallin had his 8 week checkup last week as well. He’s up to 11 lbs 14oz and is 22.5 inches long. His weight is in the 50th percentile, length in 25th and head in 25th. Weight and length are up from his 2 week checkup which were 25 and 5 respectively. But he already has size 12 feet, which is in the 460th percentile, so it all evens out ok ;) He also got a few shots, which he was a tad unhappy about… as was Kaylene.

That’s about it. Fall colors are starting to come in to the mountains, so hope to have some nice fall pictures shortly. We also hope to get up to the Utah State Fair this week and get some long exposure shots as well.
